BAKERY

School meals are giving kids the goodness of whole grains. Whole grains give kids B vitamins, minerals, and fiber to help them feel full longer so they stay alert to concentrate at school. Half of the weekly grains offered as part of school lunch and breakfast must be “whole grain-rich.”

Foods that meet the whole grain-rich criteria for the school meal programs contain 100 percent whole grain or a blend of whole-grain meal and/or flour and enriched meal and/or flour of which at least 50 percent is whole grain. The remaining 50 percent or less of grains, if any, must be enriched. For more information on whole grain-rich requirements for school meal programs, visit the USDA website.

KPC bids for fresh whole grain-rich bakery items on behalf of our members. Details for current contract holders, including bid solicitation, bid response, contract, price list, service area and nutritionals, can be found on the KPC4me website.

DAIRY

School meal programs provide access to healthy and nutritious foods, such as non-fat and low-fat dairy products.  Milk provides nine essential nutrients—including protein, calcium, potassium and vitamin D—to support growth, strong bones and muscles, healthy weight and heart health.

GROCERY

KPC has awarded a Prime Vendor contract to Gordon Food Service for grocery and other miscellaneous items. This prime vendor contract creates efficiencies by allowing our members to deal with a single supplier for ordering, deliveries, and invoicing.

Pricing for primary bid items is subject to quarterly escalation/de-escalation while pricing for secondary items may change monthly. Price change requests must be reviewed and approved by KPC. Review is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U).

Gordon Food Service also provides a competitive weekly produce quote to our members for use when making produce purchases utilizing small purchase procedure guidelines. For more information, go to the KPC4me webpage.
